Passport Renewal in Pattaya: UK, US & Australian Guide
A practical guide to renewing a UK, US or Australian passport while living in Pattaya, including eligibility, documents, official procedures and Thai record updates.

Renewing a foreign passport while living in Pattaya
Passport renewal is controlled by the government that issued the passport—not by Thai Immigration and not by a private service provider. A British, American and Australian citizen living in Pattaya will therefore follow different forms, eligibility rules, payment methods and submission procedures.
Buddy Visa & Travel currently lists passport-renewal assistance for eligible United Kingdom, United States and Australian passport holders. Other nationalities require individual service confirmation. Our role is to help check the applicable route, prepare the file and coordinate the permitted submission or delivery steps; the issuing authority alone accepts, processes and issues the passport.
For individual assistance, see Buddy Visa’s Passport Renewal service in Pattaya.
Current Buddy Visa promotion
The confirmed promotion displayed by Buddy Visa & Travel is:
- USA passport renewal assistance starts from THB 12,000, including applicable embassy fees;
- UK passport renewal assistance: contact Buddy Visa for pricing;
- Australian passport renewal assistance: contact Buddy Visa for pricing;
- free passport stamp-transfer assistance is included for all three nationalities, subject to the applicant’s Thai visa type and eligibility; and
- eligible customers may avoid travelling to an embassy in Bangkok, subject to the relevant embassy’s procedures.
The THB 12,000 starting price applies to eligible USA passport-renewal assistance only. The final amount and service availability must be confirmed for the applicant’s age, passport condition and application type before proceeding. A routine adult renewal may follow a mail-based route, while a first passport, child application, lost or damaged passport, name change, emergency document or other exceptional case may require different documents or an in-person appointment. Government fees and exchange-rate-based local fees can change.
Start by checking whether it is a renewal
Not every passport application qualifies as a simple renewal. The issuing authority may require a full new application or an in-person procedure when:
- the previous passport was lost, stolen, cancelled or seriously damaged;
- the passport was issued when the applicant was a child;
- too much time has passed since issue or expiry;
- personal details have changed;
- the applicant cannot present the previous passport where required;
- the application is for a child; or
- the applicant needs an emergency or limited-validity travel document.
Check eligibility before arranging photographs, translations or payment. Requirements differ by nationality and by the applicant’s circumstances.
British passport renewal from Thailand
GOV.UK provides a Thailand-specific overseas passport application route. Its current guidance directs applicants to:
- download and complete the overseas application form;
- use the official guidance notes;
- provide two identical new passport photographs;
- include the supporting documents required for the individual application;
- obtain full professional translations for documents that are not in English, including address documents; and
- complete the official credit or debit card payment form.
Adult renewals, child passports, replacements and changes of details do not necessarily use the same evidence. Applicants should generate or download the current Thailand instructions from GOV.UK rather than relying on a saved or older checklist.
US passport renewal from Thailand
The US Department of State advises applicants outside the United States and Canada to follow instructions from the nearest US embassy or consulate. Eligibility for the standard adult renewal route generally depends on being able to submit the most recent passport, the passport not being lost, stolen or materially damaged, it having been issued within the permitted period and when the holder was at least 16, and the name being unchanged or supported by acceptable name-change evidence.
A child passport is not renewed using the standard adult renewal process. Lost, stolen, damaged and some limited-validity passports also require a different route. Applicants in Thailand should use only the official Department of State and US mission instructions applicable at the time of filing.
Private assistance does not make a US passport application process faster and is not affiliated with the US government. The applicant must personally make all declarations and complete any appearance required by the issuing authority.
Australian passport renewal from Thailand
The Australian Embassy in Thailand states that eligible applicants may renew an adult passport by mail. For this streamlined route, the previous passport must meet the published eligibility conditions, including having been issued when the holder was at least 16, issued on or after 1 January 2006, issued with at least two years’ validity, showing the holder’s current personal details, and not being damaged, lost, stolen or cancelled.
The Embassy’s mailed adult-renewal instructions say eligible applicants should:
- complete the renewal application online;
- print and sign it in the required format;
- provide compliant passport photographs;
- include the required payment authorization and return envelope; and
- send the application through the accepted postal channel.
The Embassy states that original documents, including the existing passport, should not be sent with an eligible mailed renewal. Applicants who do not meet the mail-renewal criteria must use the relevant in-person or full-application procedure.
Documents to prepare
The exact checklist is nationality-specific, but preparation commonly begins with:
- the current or most recent passport;
- the current official application or renewal form;
- passport photographs that meet the issuing country’s specifications;
- identity, citizenship or name-change evidence where required;
- translated documents where the issuing authority requires English translations;
- the authority’s payment form or permitted payment method; and
- delivery, return-envelope or collection information required for the selected route.
Do not alter passport photographs digitally or assume that one country’s photo dimensions are acceptable for another. Check signatures, dates, names and application numbers carefully before submission.
A practical application process
1. Review the passport and travel plans
Check the expiry date, condition, issue date, name and any planned international travel. Some authorities retain or cancel an existing passport during processing, while eligible Australian mail applicants in Thailand may retain and use the current passport during the renewal process under the Embassy’s published instructions.
2. Confirm the correct authority and application route
Use the official government instructions for the passport nationality. Determine whether the case qualifies for a routine adult renewal, a mail route, a full application or an in-person appointment.
3. Prepare forms, photographs and supporting evidence
Use current forms and follow the exact signing, dating, photo and translation requirements. Incomplete applications or non-compliant photographs can delay processing.
4. Confirm the service quotation
Buddy Visa’s USA passport-renewal assistance starts from THB 12,000 with applicable embassy fees included. UK and Australian applicants should contact Buddy Visa for pricing. Confirm in writing what is included for the individual case, especially if it involves a child, lost or damaged passport, name change, emergency travel or additional official charges.
5. Submit through the permitted channel
Applications must be sent, lodged or attended exactly as the issuing authority requires. A representative cannot replace a personal appearance, declaration or signature when the authority requires the applicant to complete it.
6. Check the new passport immediately
When the new passport arrives, check the spelling of the name, date and place of birth, sex marker, passport number and expiry date. Report an error promptly through the issuing authority’s official process.
After receiving the new passport in Thailand
A new passport has a new passport number. Foreign residents should review whether their Thai immigration records, current permission to stay, visa information, re-entry permit, 90-day reporting record or other official records need to be transferred or updated.
Do not assume that every stamp or endorsement moves automatically to the new passport. Keep the old passport unless the issuing authority instructs otherwise and consult the Thai immigration office responsible for your address about the current transfer procedure. Travel bookings, airline profiles, bank records and other accounts may also need updating.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using an application form or fee schedule saved from an older year.
- Treating a child, lost, stolen or damaged passport as a routine adult renewal.
- Using photographs that do not meet the issuing country’s exact specifications.
- Signing outside the required box or using the wrong date format.
- Sending original documents when the official mail instructions say not to do so.
- Booking travel before confirming whether the old passport remains usable.
- Assuming a private service provider controls processing or approval.
- Forgetting to update relevant Thai immigration records after receiving the new passport.
Frequently asked questions
Can every passport be renewed from home in Pattaya?
No. Home or mail-based handling is available only where the issuing authority permits it and the applicant meets the eligibility conditions. Some applications require an in-person appointment.
Is passport renewal always THB 12,000?
No. The confirmed THB 12,000 starting price applies to eligible USA passport-renewal assistance and includes applicable embassy fees. UK and Australian customers should contact Buddy Visa for pricing. Every final quotation must be confirmed before the service begins.
What does the free passport stamp-transfer assistance include?
Buddy Visa offers free assistance with the passport stamp-transfer process for USA, UK and Australian passport-renewal customers. Whether a transfer can be completed, and which records require updating, depends on the person’s Thai visa type, immigration status and eligibility. Thai Immigration controls the transfer or update of official records.
Does Buddy Visa issue the passport?
No. Only the relevant national passport authority can approve and issue a passport. Buddy Visa provides preparation and coordination assistance.
Can Buddy Visa guarantee the processing time?
No. Processing is controlled by the issuing authority and can be affected by incomplete documents, identity checks, delivery and the type of application. Always check the authority’s current guidance before making travel plans.
What if my passport is lost or damaged?
Do not use the routine-renewal assumptions in this guide. Contact the issuing authority promptly and follow its lost, stolen, damaged or emergency-document procedure.
Do I need to update Thai Immigration?
You may need to transfer or update relevant immigration records after receiving a new passport. The exact procedure depends on your Thai immigration status and the records in the previous passport.
